10 lessons I learned after 9 months jumping into Freelance Writing

About 9 months ago I was running low on cash and getting a bit antsy. Things weren’t going as I’d like in my coaching space. And the bills were piling up.

I needed an extra stream of income while I worked on bringing in clients. I’ve been writing on Medium sporadically for almost a year. So I thought, why not try writing blogs and articles freelance?

So I created some profiles on popular sites and jumped in, headfirst to find my first clients.

My experience has been a mixed bag of awesomeness, frustration, and learning.

But overall, not too bad…

If you’re new to freelance writing or thinking about jumping into freelance writing, here are some tips from someone slightly ahead of you in the freelance space.

1. Treat it as a business from jump

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that you need to treat freelance writing as a business. I thought of it as a simple trade of words for dollars.

That’s an employee mindset keeping you from growing.

When you position yourself as someone who can add value, you can request better rates. And you’ll be more confident to reach out to blogs and businesses as a business…
