Being a new team leader could be a serious challenge. Sometimes you come into a workspace or group with a set culture, contrary to your values. Other times, you ascend through the ranks and have a host of haters and naysayers to deal with.

I can relate as I’ve been there several times in my career. Either moving from one team to another, getting promoted to manage your own team, or coming into a new organization altogether.

In any situation, one of the first things you need to establish is a collaboration, co-operation, and buy-in. Some team members will give it willingly. Others, not so much. But in order for you to achieve your objectives, to grow and develop your team, you need the team to follow.

I’ll be the first to admit this is easier said than done. Every mistake you make is amplified. And if the buck starts and stops with you, the stakes are even higher. Nevertheless, there are some key fundamentals each new team leader should look to establish. If you stick to these core tips and build on them, you’ll find you have a synergistic, high-performing team faster than you thought possible.

Have A Shared Vision
